Recovery at TMH Rehab follows a learning-centered model. We believe patients who understand the science of their addiction—not just the symptoms—are better equipped to maintain sobriety long after they leave our campus. Each program below blends rigorous clinical work with the restorative setting of our urban sanctuary.

Medical Detox

Medical detox program at TMH Rehab

Detox is the body's first demand, and it deserves a medical response—not willpower. At TMH Rehab, board-certified physicians and registered nurses manage every stage of withdrawal with round-the-clock monitoring, targeted medication-assisted treatment, and continuous vitals assessment. The goal is straightforward: stabilize the body so the mind can begin to participate in its own recovery.

Duration ranges from 3 to 7 days depending on the substance, the depth of physiological dependence, and each patient's health profile. Throughout this period, our medical staff adjusts protocols in real time—titrating medications, managing sleep disruption, and addressing the anxiety that withdrawal inevitably surfaces.

Before a patient completes detox, our clinical team has already drafted a transition plan for the next phase. Detox clears the path; treatment builds the road.

Residential Treatment

Residential treatment at TMH Rehab

Our residential program runs 30 to 90 days and is built around a structured-academic model. Residents live on our 49-bed campus and follow a learning-intensive daily schedule designed to build understanding of addiction science alongside practical coping skills. Each day moves from psychoeducation lectures in the morning through hands-on workshops and group therapy in the afternoon to reflective practice in the evening.

Clinical programming includes twice-weekly individual counseling, daily group therapy using CBT and experiential methods, family systems therapy sessions, and SMART Recovery meetings. Residents also attend addiction science workshops where they study the neurobiology of dependence, the pharmacology of the substances they used, and the evidence behind each modality in their treatment plan. The philosophy is simple: patients who understand why something works are far more likely to keep doing it.

Outpatient Program

Outpatient program at TMH Rehab

Leaving the sanctuary of residential care and re-entering the city's rhythm is one of the most vulnerable moments in recovery. Our outpatient programs are designed to bridge that gap—maintaining clinical rigor while patients rebuild daily routines in the real world.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): Five days per week, six hours per day, for 2 to 4 weeks. Patients attend structured programming on campus—group therapy, individual counseling, psychiatric check-ins, and experiential sessions—then return home each evening to practice what they've learned in their own environment.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Three to five evenings per week, three hours per session, for 8 to 12 weeks. IOP is built for people who are working, attending school, or parenting while staying accountable to their recovery. Sessions include CBT-focused group work, SMART Recovery meetings, and individual counseling. Evening scheduling means professionals never have to choose between career and treatment.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Dual diagnosis treatment at TMH Rehab

Addiction often has a co-author. Depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder—these conditions do not politely wait while a patient addresses substance use. At TMH Rehab, our dual diagnosis program treats both realities in the same room, at the same time, with the same coordinated team.

Licensed psychiatrists and addiction counselors collaborate on integrated care plans that include psychiatric evaluation, psychopharmacological management, trauma-focused therapy, and specialized group sessions examining how mental health conditions and substance use reinforce each other. When patients understand the feedback loop, they gain leverage over both sides of it.

The setting matters here too. Our urban sanctuary—quiet nature paths, greenhouse activities, acupuncture suite—provides a nervous-system reset that supports psychiatric stabilization. Patients frequently tell us that the physical calm of the campus made it possible to engage with difficult therapeutic material they had avoided for years.

Treatment Modalities

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — Identifies the thought distortions that fuel substance use and replaces them with evidence-based coping strategies.
  • Individual Counseling — Private sessions where patients examine personal history, triggers, and recovery objectives with a dedicated clinician.
  • Group Therapy — Facilitated peer sessions that build accountability, empathy, and collective insight in a safe setting.
  • Experiential Therapy — Art, music, movement, and outdoor activities that access emotional material beyond the reach of traditional talk therapy.
  • SMART Recovery — A science-based, self-empowering approach to addiction recovery using motivational and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
  • Family Systems Therapy — Structured sessions that address household dynamics, repair communication patterns, and educate loved ones about the cycle of addiction.
